A Finger Lickin’ Good Team Building Event

More than 35 food scientists, regional managers and R&D chefs from Kentucky Fried Chicken joined recently at Team Building with Taste in Dallas, Texas. These professionals came together from around the world for a global business meeting, and they wandered into our commercial kitchen for some creative team building in the form of a cooking showdown. The KFC employees learned a lot about one another and succeeding with team work, and they also discovered that even employees of a national restaurant brand can bond in the kitchen.

The theme of the week was “Americana,” and in addition to their meetings, the attendees from France, England, Russia, Brazil, Spain, South Africa and other countries spent time at various Texas venues that epitomized the good ol’ USA!

Their four-hour team building event at Team Building with Taste was no exception. Chef Joey Allette and his team stocked our pantry with prototypical American ingredients ranging from Wisconsin cheese to Apple Pie.

Of course, the featured item in each team’s market basket was chicken (breasts thighs and legs).

KFC Employees Get Creative with Culinary Team Building Competition

The goal of the Taste of Innovation team building competition: Use the all-American ingredients to come up with a new item that could conceivably be sold by KFC.

After an intense hour of experimenting and cooking, as well as navigating some of the curve balls we threw them, the judges determined the winner: a KFC Zinger (fried chicken tender) sandwich with a spicy slaw with sweet Dallas Blonde Beer and glazed Cheerios (Beer-E-Ohs) on a honey bacon jerk-coated Ciabatta roll.

“It tasted better than it sounds,” remarked Chef Joey.

KFC event organizer Shilpa Thakker was thrilled with the team building experience. “Participants have been writing back and applauding the event as a huge success,” she noted.

“It was perfectly planned and executed and everyone had a lot of fun attending the event,” Thakker said. “It was a great team building exercise and the Team Building with Taste team did an outstanding job keeping everyone engaged and entertained.”
